About.

Music has always been my passion for my whole life.  I had wanted to be a concert pianist when I grew up.  My mother realized that this was a hard profession and guided me into the study of math which I also enjoyed very much.

After attending Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, I was accepted into the University of California at Los Angeles and studied mathematics and music.  I was mentored by Professor Afifi. Together, we would go on to write a book and celebrate numerous milestones together. He remains a dear friend of mine to this day.

My love of mathematics led me to my career as a Professor at University of Southern California. I started teaching in the Department of Bioengineering and began to develop programming exploring real-life data and biological relationships. I created a program about statistical applications applied to medical research, pushing research via biostatistical methods. I established biostatistical courses in data analysis, mathematical statistics and clinical trials leading to my developing the MS degree program in Biometry in 1975 and the PhD program in 1978. This later became the biostatistical program and remains a part of the Keck School of Medicine.

My work at USC gave me the opportunity to not only analyze important data for research and the development of medical treatments but it provided me with the opportunity to mentor numerous students, travel the world and connect my love of math to music.

I've played at many weddings for my students

I play the piano wherever I go, no matter where in the world I may be.
